Looking to replace / upgrade my Weber Genesis. It's been very good to me but I'm looking for something a little bigger / better. I'm only looking to replace the gas grill, not my smoker or charcoal grill.

Looked at one of these: http://www.weber.com/explore/Grill_details...id=3&mid=16

It's very nice but a little on the pricey side (bout $1700)

Any suggestions?

I have had a Genesis 310 for 2 years now. My first Genesis lasted me 10yrs. I see the extra bells and whistle the Summit has but it doesn't justify the price difference. Actual grilling surface area is less than the Genesis 468 vs 507. I can't imagine the side burner, 4th burner, smoker box,and rotisserie making it worth the extra 1K. Since you already have a smoker, buy a new Genesis and buy the optional rotisserie. tu.gif

No question the Genesis grills are solid. I'm 7 years into mine and it's still a great grill. I replaced the burners, flavorizer bars, and grill grates about 3 years ago and honestly it has quite a bit of life left. Mine has the side burner and I do use it.

That said ... there are some features I see in the Summit that are not available in the Genesis. My biggest complaint about SS grates is that they don't sear as well as I'd like. The Summit combats this with the addition of a searing burner in the middle. Likewise, I can add a rotisserie motor to my present grill, but the Summit has an infrared burner for the rotisserie. If you've ever had rotisserie chicken with a crispy crust ... that's what this does.

The smoker box & burner are neat, not a feature I care one way or the other about as I do have a vertical smoker already.

I spent a few hours reading reviews and research last night and everything I see tells me that the Summit is the best bang in this price range. Seems like the next step up is into the commercial types and the price gets stupid then.

I also found an online dealer that sells and delivers the S-470 for $1400 total.

I had cast iron grates on my current weber when I first got it. Definitely a better cooking surface, but I didn't take care of them and they rotted. I always have the option with the Weber of getting them if I change my mind down the road.

mwk, the RH Peterson are nice ... little out of my price range this time around but some day I'd love to do a built in with one of their grills.

When you get some new cast iron grates cook the greasiest fattiest hamburgers you can find on em first thing. Cover the whole grill surface. Don't use soap to clean the grate from that point forward. I use a pressure washer with the low pressure general use tip. Works out well and the grates stay rust free and seasoned.
