I rented a cabin in North Georgia and spent a week up there fishing and relaxing cuz I was in severe need of a break from work. It's located in McCaysville, GA - right at the TN border and maybe 4 miles from the NC border as the crow flies. We made the drive in about 9 hours, including a stop at Fox Brothers BBQ in Atlanta for lunch.

The cabin belonged to some friends of ours. There's a creek that runs through the back yard but not too fishy while we were there, although my son did pull a couple out of it. The nearest river is full of fish and is only a few minutes away.
The plan was simple: fish every day, drink beer and bourbon, smoke cigars, and generally forget about work for a week.
Mission accomplished!

I started the first day with a guided trip on some private (trophy) water. I booked through Unicoi outfitters in Blue Ridge - a real class operation. My guide met me at the shop at 8:00am and we headed off in his truck to the creek we'd be fishing. I was hoping to use my new 3wt but they said to leave it at home in favor of a 5wt. My guide taught me a lot about trout fishing, and gave me lots of guidance as I am still a novice at this. I even learned how to roll cast

Fish had been feeding on "terrestrials" - so the first dry he gave me was this enormous grasshopper.

Probably 15 minutes into the day I landed a 16" rainbow on this fly - my personal best trout, and the smallest fish of the day! I snapped one halfassed pic in the net, then held it up for another shot, only to have it wiggle out of my hand and take off

Got into lots more fish as the day went on. Midday I got one over 20". It was a hell of a fight, 7 or 8 jumps and the fish trying to wrap me around a submerged log the whole time. No way in hell could I have stopped it with the 3wt. It was hot as fuk and I couldn't wait to get out of my waders once we were done.

After this trip, I fished the Toccoa river, just a couple of minutes from the cabin. I had rising fish every day and stuck with dries. I caught fish every day, most in the 9-12" range - 3wt territory. It's hard to photograph these yourself so I apologize for the crappy net shots

One of the days the local TU chapter came down for a group trip. Looked like Tiger Shoals

Wife got some shots with her Nikon, pretty neat shots

Other than that we just chilled. We did a canoe trip one day, it was a short trip down the Toccoa right after it rained, so it was foggy on the river.

It was a great trip, probably the most relaxing vacation I've ever had. Trout fishing is so damned fun.
