Wife got her dog, I get another bote
I'm having some trouble narrowing it down ... there seem to be lots of boats that fit the bill. I'm just trying to find the best boat at the best price. I doubt I will spend more than $20k ... but I'd love to get away with only spending 12 or 13. Rules of the house are that boats are cash purchases only, so the cheaper it is the sooner I get it.
I'm looking for a bigger boat to be my second boat. Something that I can run the beaches and nearshore areas (picking my days of course) for cobia, tarpon, maybe the occasional nearshore reef.
I live near the St Johns River and Lake Monroe, so this boat should also accomodate the occasional booze cruise or tow an innertube.
Basically, a larger fishing boat that is comfortable enough to take the family and friends out.
I don't want something overly huge, I have a V6 powered pickup and ideally I'd like to replace it a few years from now.
My options as I see them:
Small Offshore boat (19 or 20 feet)
Bay Boat (20 or 21 feet)
Panga (20 or 22 feet)
The small offshore boat would be great, but I'm concerned about the overall weight and my truck's ability to tow it. Also, heavier boats need bigger motors, so price may be a problem.
Bay boats fit the bill nicely, I have to pick my days going offshore probably moreso than with the offshore rig, and have to find one with ample seating in order to make it work. The added bonus with a bay boat is I can put a troller on it and fish the Indian River, docks down souf, etc.
Pangas are great. They are light so they dont need a huge motor and they are more towable than a regular offshore boat. Not all are set up well for passenger seating, and there are almost NO used pangas for sale. New prices are a little higher than I'd like to spend.
So what do you guys think?
