5th Annual Brandon Thomas Benefit Red Fish Tournament
                          (Formerly the Brandon Thornton Tournament)

June 9 2007 Sand Point Park Titusville Florida

For the 5th year in a row the local community is banding together to raise money for local families with children suffering from cancer. This tournament has been a “Home Grown” event which has helped to alleviate the financial burdens brought on by the medical bills for children with cancer.  100% of ALL money raised is given directly to the family designated by myself and a board of members whom have dedicated their precious time to help the community.

This year’s event will be held to help the tournament’s name sake and his family rebuild their lives after he finally beat the cancer, yet their financial burden is still great due to the medical expenses incurred.  We are hoping to use the money raised to help remodel the house in which Brandon and his 5 additional family members live.

Brandon Thomas (formerly Thornton) was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer(Ganglia Neuro Blastoma) a little over 5 years ago. Brandon was not given much chance at survival and this devastating disease was on the brink of destroying a family unit. Brandon bravely and without complaining endured many months of radical treatment which was not only hard on him but his entire family as they watched him suffer. This tournament was brought to life by a local fishing forum and its’ members and within 3 weeks the first Brandon Thomas Benefit Redfish Tournament was held. The money raised helped to keep the family focused on assisting in Brandon’s recovery .

Brandon has since beaten the cancer, and is now leading the life of a normal healthy and very active young man.  Brandon’s family home is small, yet this is the home they love and wish to stay in.  It was severely damaged in the hurricanes of ’04, and despite some repairs it is still in need of attention. We hope to resolve most,  if not all issues with this year’s tournament  proceeds.
Because this tournament is put on by local fisherman and their families the focus is on making the entire  event a very family friendly experience. We all hope that the children whom attend walk away with a seed planted in their hearts at a young age to not only care about our fishing grounds, but also to have a desire to help those in need.

What we need from the local community and businesses is donations of goods and or services that we may use for raffle items and prizes. Although we prefer to have mostly fishing or outdoor related items, any and all items are useful in selling raffle tickets, and giving out as prizes. We appreciate anything we can get, and your help will not be forgotten. Most folks who attend this tournament will know what businesses helped, and usually return the favor by frequenting said establishments. For those who make donations we have a sponsor board in which all businesses are listed, and for the larger donations we make sure to announce them on Boodreaux’s BoonDocques, a local outdoor radio show in Central Florida (Saturday Mornings 5am-7am Channel- 740am) as well as the Florida Sportsman Live radio show on WMEL 920AM in Melbourne from 8:05am-9:00am Saturdays.
